PD Dr. Jochen Hippler

Political Scientist and peace researcher at the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF - University Duisburg-Essen, Germany) since 2000.

Main research interests:

• political violence (like war, civil war, insurgency and counterinsurgency, terrorism, military interventionism),
• problems of state and non-state governance,
• political identities (of ethnic, religious, national, or other character).

I am interested in the connecting links between these topics.
In addition I am working on inter-cultural relationships, specifically in regard to Western-Muslim relations, and on the political role of religion.

My main regional interest are the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa), and Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan.
